To drive legally in Grenada, you need a valid licence from your home country plus, in most cases, a local temporary driver’s permit or police registration. Rules depend on whether your licence was issued in an OECS or CARICOM member state.
OECS & CARICOM licence holders
If your licence was issued in an OECS or CARICOM country, you must register it at a police station on arrival. Registration is free and valid for six months.
If you wish to drive away from the airport immediately, you will also need to purchase a local temporary driver’s permit — currently $24 USD. Nedd’s team can point you to the nearest station and explain the process when you collect your vehicle.
All other international visitors
Renters licensed outside OECS or CARICOM must obtain a local temporary driver’s permit before driving in Grenada. The permit fee is $24 USD. Bring your passport and home licence; processing is usually straightforward during business hours.
Plan a little extra time on arrival day if you are picking up at the airport and need a permit before leaving the terminal area.
At pickup
Present your passport, licence, and permit (or registration receipt) when you collect your vehicle. Payment at pickup is cash or credit card (Mastercard or Visa). A $1,125 USD insurance deductible may be held on your card for the rental period — see our terms for full details.
